We have spotted a swift using one of our swift bricks at Saxon Primary School! We are delighted the Swifts have found the bricks we installed in February. Lets hope for a successful breeding season!
We’ve been busy working with local schools to create more nesting opportunities for our much loved Swifts, whose population has dramatically declined by 68% since 1995!

Part of the problem has been the loss of nesting sites. Talking Tree Swift Project has now installed 16 Swift bricks and nest boxes across three schools. This is a huge step toward giving these incredible birds safe places to raise their young when they return from Africa in early May. Although difficult to spot, you can see the Swift bricks along the top of the wall at Saxon and Echleford, and nesting chambers at Walton Oak

A Big thank you to: Dandara for funding this project, Martin Kane, who volunteered his time and tools to install the nests. And also to the wonderful schools – Saxon Primary, Echelford Primary and Walton Oak – and their wonderful facilities manager, Robin Wyatt, who have welcomed this project with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to increasing nature.
