Our name, Talking Tree, derives from the Saxon word for Spelthorne, meaning ’speaking tree’: a place where local people met to discuss the important issues of the day. And most would agree that Climate Change is the defining issue of our time.
It’s happening more quickly than we ever feared, and its consequences are far-reaching.
But as individuals we are far from powerless in the face of this threat: collectively, we can all make a difference by changing our own habits and by putting pressure on businesses, organisations and governing bodies to make wholesale changes to how they operate, so that we can all live in a way that protects our planet and provides a green, safe and fair future for all.
Talking Tree is helping to build a community response to the climate emergency by sharing ideas, information and sustainability skills through our projects
We currently are working mobile running various projects along with our amazing volunteers! View our current projects below
"it was life changing! It is always hard to put in words the feelings that you experience when you involve yourself in selfless acts that you do for people and community in general. Here at Talking Tree I was awed and amazed at the passion and diligence that all volunteers and management put in to make an impact on climate change. The various projects that are run by the volunteers are incredible and amazing and all of this is done not just as a responsibility or obligation but as a commitment to the society at large" - Shalia
"Not only is there opportunity to get your hands dirty, the other volunteers are so friendly! I've met so many cool people that I enjoy seeing when I'm able to get to a session! The work that has been done to improve the biodiversity in the space makes bug spotting such a fun activity! Because there is no pressure to produce any end product, there is lots of room to experiment with different plants to find out what works and what doesn't! The other last bonus benefit of volunteering with the food garden is the food that does get grown, has revitalised my love for cooking with random ingredients again! Honestly, it's been wonderful! It's a socially, educationally and, most importantly, environmentally asset to Talking Tree" - Emma
